Thanks To Buzzfeed For Covering The Story Of Our Rescue Mule “Hope”

Hope The Rescue Mule

Incase you missed it, Buzzfeed covered Red Barn’s trainer Jill Aureliano’s efforts to rescue “Hope The Mule” from the slaughter pen.  Although horse slaughter is illegal in the United States, kill buyers still peruse auctions around the USA to find horses they can ship and sell to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico.

Slaughter is a brutal and terrifying end for horses, and it is not humane. Horses are shipped for more than 24 hours at a time without food, water, or rest in crowded trucks. They are often seriously injured or killed in transit. The Red Barn is proud to have been able to give “Hope” a second chance and educate our riders about responsible equine ownership and the slaughterhouse pipeline.
